Delmar Senior is WBOC Scholar Athlete

Delmar, DE, Monday, October 21, 2013: It is with great pride that the Delmar School District announces Delmar High School Senior, Sara Ellis, as October’s WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athelete Award Winner.

Honorees of the monthly WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete Award must academically carry a “B” average or higher and also participate in at least two varsity school sponsored sports in a year. Ellis, who has played varsity field hockey, basketball, and soccer every season since her 8th grade school year, has maintained a 3.75 GPA. Ellis athletically never receives down time; each of her sports seasons overlap with one another throughout her school year. Ashley Giska, Princpal at Delmar High School, says Sara is a leader and role model both on and off the field. She brings an unparalleled commitment and a contagious positive energy to everything she does. He says, “Sara embodies everything we teach about character and academic excellence here at Delmar.”

“Sara is so deserving of this honor,” says Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Jodi Hollamon. “Her work ethic on the field, in the classroom, and in the community is amazing. Her passion is contagious. She is a leader by nature and a role model to all of the students in our school district.”

As the October recipient of the WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete Award, Sara will receive a $1,000 college scholarship along with a trophy recognizing her accomplishments. She also has the opportunity to become

the WBOC/Mountaire Farms Scholar Athlete of the Year with the potential to receive another $2,500 college scholarship.
